Dental Cleaning

Recommended every 6 months for patients with healthy

dentition. If a patient has a history of periodontal disease,

it might be recommended to get cleanings every 3–4 months.

Plaque forms within a few minutes of brushing. If the plaque

is not removed, within 2 weeks, it becomes tartar, which

needs to be professionally removed.

A dental cleaning will ensure:

  1. Prevention of cavities. Plaque becomes a food source for

  2. bacteria, resulting in tooth demineralization over time. This leads to the formation of cavities.

  3. Prevention of periodontal disease (gum disease). The formation of plaque and tartar initially irritates the gums. As gum disease advances, it can destroy the supporting bone in your jaw, causing teeth to loosen and need to be extracted.

  4. Brightening your smile. Drinking coffee, tea, and wine or using tobacco can stain your teeth. A dental cleaning can remove built-up stains and leave you with freshly polished teeth. The result? A whiter, brighter smile!

  5. Freshening your breath. Good oral hygiene is the best way to prevent persistent bad breath. Even if you brush and floss regularly, getting a cleaning is a great way to keep your mouth healthy and odor-free.

  6. Boosting your overall health. Studies have shown a connection between oral and overall health. Regular dental cleanings may help lower your risk for diseases like heart disease and diabetes. Many medical conditions, some of them life-threatening, can be detected in their early stages by your dentist during a routine oral exam.

  7. Saving money. You will be able to save money in the long run by helping protect your oral health and potentially avoiding more costly and extensive procedures.
